Single-Day Classes
Outerlands Medics & Rescue will travel to you and facilitate a training customized to your group. Choose from three core curriculum areas — CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, and First Aid — to combine any two into a single 4-hour session, or opt for our full-day Backcountry First Aid course for the most comprehensive single-day training we offer. These single-day options are designed for groups on fast-paced schedules and limited time to train together.
CPR/ AED
This CPR/AED training covers proper CPR care for Adult, Infants, and Children. Participants learn about the common causes of acute coronary events, assess the signs and symptoms of myocardial infarctions, and practice hands-on delivery of CPR, rescue breathing, and choking treatments.
Upon completion, students receive certifications in CPR/AED from Health & Safety Institute.
CPR, especially if administered immediately after cardiac arrest, can double or triple a person's chance of survival.
When bystanders applied an AED in public settings, the survival rate was 33.6% - more than triple the overall 10.5% average survival rate.
2 Hour Training
STOP THE BLEED
Our Stop the Bleed class follows the National curriculum set by the American College of Surgeons to train how to manage life-threatening bleeding. The class focuses on recognizing major bleeding, applying direct pressure, proper tourniquet application, placing chest seals, and nuanced bleeding control situations. There is a lecture, hands-on wound packing station with simulated wounds, and practice using CAT-7 style tourniquets.
This is an excellent course for those working with chainsaws, heavy machinery, potentially exposed to firearms, or in moving vehicles like ATV's, mountain bikes, snow cats, or similar.
Car accidents are common causes of major bleeding and bleeding is the #1 cause of preventable death.
2 Hour Training
FIRST AID
This First Aid class covers the essential skills needed to respond confidently to common emergencies - skills every person should have on hand for everyday life.
Topics include assessing mental status, wound cleaning and care, splinting for fractures and sprains, and recognizing and responding to respiratory emergencies.
Each class can be tailored to include an additional focus area most relevant to your group's environment and needs - from job sites and classrooms to community events and everyday households.
Perfect for parents and teachers, who are often the first responders when child-related emergencies happen - long before paramedics arrive.

Backcountry First Aid (BFA)

This one day course is an excellent introduction or refresher to wilderness medicine. Courses are a combination of lectures and hands-on scenarios that equip you to respond when resources are limited.

All listed prices are for classes within 2 hours of Santa Cruz.
An additional travel fee will be charged to groups outside of the Santa Cruz, South Bay, SF, or East Bay areas.
For all group trainings, payment is due at time of class reservation. The minimum payment shown above functions as a deposit to hold the class date and Instructor(s), and will be retained even if fewer than the minimum number of attendees are present.
Payment not received prior to the class starting is considered late and will be charged a late fee, unless previously arranged.
